The name Dave Moon sounds familiar.
I'm looking for any service record for one of my cousins who died in WW2. His details are:-
1384277 Sgt. Alfred Coughlan Moore, RAF Reserves
According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission he was buried in Egypt 1942
Regards, Tom Moore
Since my previous request I've found this:-
24 July 1942Soon after 1730 hours, Hurricanes of 80 Squadron provided top cover toothers of 238 on an evening patrol, eight Bf 109s of II./JG 27 beingscrambled to intercept the formation. They bounced the top cover ,Oblt Sinner shooting down Sgt Moore, one of the 92 Squadron pilotsattached to 80, the latter baling out, badly wounded, over Deir elRakhil. He died of his wounds on 26th.
IIn the Commonwealth War Graves Commission he is reported as;-
MOORE, ALFRED COGHLANRank:SergeantTrade:PilotService No:1384277Date of Death:27/07/1942Age:26Regiment/Service:Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve92 Sqdn.Grave Reference2. F. 6.CemeteryHELIOPOLIS WAR CEMETERYAdditional Information:Son of Chief Inspector Christopher William (of Shanghai MunicipalPolice) and Esther H. Moore, of Shangha
I have verified his parents & noted his second name was in fact Coghlan.
I'd still like to find his service records.
Tom, I have merged your own thread under the 'M' names, if you follow the instructions here http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/ContactUs/ServiceRecordsEnquiries.htm you should be able to obtain the service records of your cousin, there will be a fee of £30+ to pay though and the best of luck.......
Reference request for Dave Moon, I think that he was 28th Entry St.Athan with me.
Tom Mulligan and I were on the same trade training course at RAF Hereford Aug to Sep/Oct 1959. He was posted to RAF Gan and I went Cyprus Oct/Nov 1959. I have just come across a post by him in the RAF Gannites blog. I would like to hear from him if he's still†kicking about.†
