Richard,

just a few comments on some of the stations you mention:

Hemswell - also site of biggest weekend market in North Lincs.
Hibaldstow - Location of Parachute School...busy every weekend during fine weather. It has its own camp site, club, etc. (Was where the skydiver died some four years ago).
Kirton Lindsey - this is again an active RAF unit, moved here from Buchan.
Waltham - Transport and Storage.
And let's not forget Finningley which is now Robin Hood Airport.

Doug

RAF Station Closures

If they close many more stations the RAF will be reduced to nothing more than a jolly little flying club.

RE: Former RAF Stations?

RAF Driffield Yorkshire in rumoured to be coming up for sale shortly, had been used by the army vehicle training mob, the hangers had been used for grain storage at one time, have fond memouries of Driffield, it had a fantastic mess, best food i ever had in the RAF, Wednesday afternoons was sport afternoon, you could choose your own activity, four of us did sea fishing and we used to go to Bridlington jump on a coble and go to sea for about 3 hours, gave our catch to married quarters, had some great fish suppers!  Always did think of my stomach!!!!

And he missed out RAF Morton Hall, which closed in 1978 or thereabouts.  It was home to 5131 BD Sqn amongst others.

RAF Dyce, now Aberdeen Airport.
Flying from there in 1986 to the Shetland Islands to join my ship.
Chatting to the local Police Sergeant, he told me that 'Bristows Helicopters' hangers and Helopads  are now on the site of the 'Married Patch'.
My father along with my mother and I, lived there in 1948/49.
There was also a farm next to the 'Married Patch', on the airfield, also now gone.
